Police arrested a Dartmouth man following a 20 mile pursuit across South Devon by armed police, helicopter and dogs, that ended up in Strete.
The 30-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, no insurance and driving without a licence.
Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Foxhole Road in Paignton around 6.10pm on Saturday.
The car failed to stop when instructed by police so officers chased it for 20 minutes from Paignton into Totnes and then Dartmouth.
The pursuit was stood down on the outskirts of Dartmouth in the interests of public safety due to the dangerous way the suspect vehicle was being driven.
A police spokeswoman continued: “An area search was carried out for the vehicle with the use of the police helicopter and a dog unit. It was located abandoned in the Strete area.
“A suspect was located in Strete a short time later.
“A 30-year-old man from Dartmouth has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, no insurance and driving while otherwise in accordance with a licence.
“He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
