The inaugural Dartmouth Charity Shield football match between Dartmouth AFC and Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) FC is set to take place on Thursday, March 22.

The match is being held to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and will take place at Longcross with a kick-off time of 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to come along and show their support for both teams and the charity.

BRNC FC was first formed for the 2015/16 season and currently play in the Devon Wednesday League, while Dartmouth AFC play their football in the South Devon League Premier Division.

Lieutenant David Clark, BRNC’s team manager said: “‘I’ve played against Dartmouth several times when I was playing for Newton Abbott in the Devon League. They have an excellent set up and are an extremely friendly club. I’m looking forward to seeing Gary Lobb and Russ Lydon again who have both devoted huge amounts of their time to Dartmouth FC.

“The game will be very competitive and is an excellent opportunity for the Royal Navy to integrate with the local community. We are hoping to bring lots of supporters and raise some money for the Devon Air Ambulance’.

It is hoped that the match could become an annual fixture. Dartmouth AFC’s manager, Gary Lobb said: “BRNC is a massive part of Dartmouth history, and an annual event between us both, in aid of any charity is a great idea. Hopefully it will be well supported."
