TWO Year 5 students at Blackawton Primary School have walked from Start Point to Strete Gate to raise money for charity.

Carys Pratt from Slapton, and Matilda Woollaston-Kovar from Stoke Fleming, both aged nine, completed their six mile challenge on Saturday, October 8, taking them three-and-a-half-hours and raising £548.53 for SOS Children’s Villages so far.

Carys’ mum, Clare Cremona, explained why her daughter decided to help raise money for the charity which provides homes, education and healthcare for children in 125 countries.

Clare said: ‘Carys decided to do it when we were in Botswana and Zimbabwe this summer. We saw lots of poverty which we all found affecting and upsetting. Carys wrote a list of ways to raise money to really try to help, particularly children in poverty.

‘This walk was one idea and she has also held a sweet stall on a Friday after school and plans to hold other events!’

Cards and Matilda only aimed to raise £250 with their challenge, already raising 219 per cent of that target and the fundraising is still open.
