PARISHIONERS gathered at St George’s parish church, Dittisham, to welcome the Bishop of Plymouth Nick McKinnel on his first visit.

During the sung eucharist, he rededicated the restored stone altar and reredos, before confirming five adults from across the benefice.

At a reception after last weekend’s Sunday service, Fr Will Hazlewood, vicar of the United Benefice of Dartmouth and Dittisham, thanked everyone who had worked so hard to bring the project to its conclusion, especially churchwardens, Gil Hayward and Paul Vincent.

‘The restored and relocated altar and reredos look fantastic and it is super to see it all finished after such a long time with a temporary altar in use,’ he said.

Fr Will also thanked Dittisham resident Alan Goodenough who generously sponsored the restoration work.

‘It was also wonderful to celebrate five adults confirm the promises made at their baptisms,’ he added.
