Well done to Gabby Prior for the excellent coverage of the latest battle in the South Hams war against wind turbines which are too big, in the wrong place and don't respect our wildlife, Chronicle, November 1.
The strength of opposition against the first proposed turbine at Ritson, near Halwell, 77 letters, far outweighed the three letters of support. This was no doubt a help to the planning officer in coming to the right decision.
But all these folks now have to stand up and be counted for a second time, in opposition to the second proposal at Ritson, for two turbines in the very next field. While these are smaller, at 83ft tip height – compared to 150ft for the first one, the fact that there are two turbines side by side, on a prominent hill-side site, visible from miles around, means that the reasons for refusal first time around are equally valid again.
The dangers to birds and bats are as great, and this time they are even closer to the houses at Ritson.
So, if you feel strongly about this application, do please write, just a few lines will do, to Jeff Sadler at South Hams Council in Follaton House, under reference 22/2373/13/F, before November 15.
Please do not assume that I, and others from the 77 referred to, are totally against all forms of renewable energy.
In areas of great landscape value and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, I believe that wind turbines should be on a small domestic scale, no taller than the properties that they serve.
As for solar panels, surely the best place for those is on our roofs, and on roofs of farm or commercial buildings, not covering our land which ought to be used for food production.
