Furzeham Primary and Nursery School near Brixham came together to celebrate the retirement of Mr. Ward, a beloved teacher who has dedicated 30 years of service to the school.
He began his career in 1994 as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT), has been a passionate educator, leader of PE and outdoor education, and a strong advocate for positive mental health and wellbeing in the community for more than three decades.
The entire school community gathered in the school hall for a celebratory assembly to honour Mr. Ward on his last day before retiring. This included co-workers, current and past pupils, families and friends. Mr. Ward's family were also in attendance, making the occasion even more special.
Mr Adams, Headteacher of Furzeham Primary School, delivered an emotional speech, reflecting on Mr. Ward’s extraordinary contribution to the school:
"Mr. Ward’s unwavering commitment, positive outlook, and infectious smile have inspired both students and colleagues.
“His legacy of promoting physical education, outdoor learning, and mental wellbeing will continue to benefit future generations. It has been an absolute privilege working alongside him, and he will be missed by all.”
Following the headteacher's speech, Mr. Ward shared a few words of gratitude and reflection:
"There are so many memories I will cherish, but one of my favourites is from 26 years ago when a parent ran across the green to thank me for helping their child. Furzeham Primary School has been such a wonderful place to work, and I have made countless cherished memories here.”
