Gold-winning Team GB hockey player, Giselle Ansley received her Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire insignia in London last month.
Giselle, who hails from Loddiswell, picked up her award from Charles, Prince of Wales at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Sunday, June 16.
The former Kingsbridge Community College pupil and Dartmouth Hockey Club star said: “It was such an honour to collect my MBE and I was really pleased that my nails looked absolutely perfect and matched my outfit for the occasion.”
All 16 of Great Britain’s gold medal-winning hockey players from Rio 2016 were named in this year’s New Year’s Honours list, with captain Kate Richardson-Walsh being appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
The GB women’s national hockey team made history in August last year, when they beat the Netherlands 2-0 in a shoot-out to win gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Chief executive of England Hockey, Sally Munday said: "It is wonderful that our athletes have been recognised in this manner. As history-making women, they have inspired thousands of people to pick up a hockey stick and enjoy our wonderful sport.
"Thanks to the support of the National Lottery, UK Sport and our sponsors, we are able to run a full time programme with outstanding coaches and staff led by Danny Kerry, giving our athletes the best chance of fulfilling their dreams and becoming Olympic champions."
Captain Kate Richardson-Walsh said: "I am hugely honoured to receive an OBE, and for the team and our sport to be recognised in this way is huge. As a squad, we want hockey to be accessible and available to everyone, and we will continue to make this our mission.
"Rio was a team effort and a testament to head coach Danny Kerry and the magnificent support team. Of course none of what we achieved would have been possible without the staff and the squad of 31 working together.
"There are so many contributors to the team’s success, and I would like to mention our army of passionate volunteers who help the sport to thrive because without them we would not be receiving this honour. Let us keep working together in the year ahead to make our wonderful sport go from strength to strength."Giselle has recently been appointed brand ambassador for the Polish nail polish brand Semilac.
