He was selected in the last five out of ten who competed in the semi-final in Bournemouth, held on Thursday, May 11th.
The Dartmouth mechanic from Blackawton faced the practical assessment successfully and, together with the other four semi-final winners, Kevin will advance to the practical final in July.
In the final, judges will set an even harder challenge to overcome, on five different vehicles. Finalists will have 50 minutes to complete each task.
The winner of the Top Technician 2017 title will be announced at an awards ceremony held at the Top Technician Live technical event.
The winner will be given the prestigious title, promotion for themselves and their workshop, as well as tax-free cash and various prizes.
When quizzed about his success, Kevin said “I am in total disbelief that I am now among the top five technicians nationwide.
“Coming from such a small town and independent garage as FRL means we do not experience, on a regular basis, some of the tasks or scenarios that were set in the challenges.
“Getting to the semi-finals was a dream come true, but now having been there, meeting such a high calibre of technicians, I have already learnt so much more than I had imagined.
“I can only hope my nerves do no get the better of me in the finals on July 13th.
“I would like to say a huge thank-you for all the support and well wishes from both customers, friends, colleagues and not forgetting Ian at FRL Autoservices who has to suffer my absence.”
Jo Veale, a receptionist at FRL, said, “Kevin’s family and the staff at F.R.L are all very proud of his achievement.
“Kevin has always strived to better himself and let his ambition drive him forward in everything he puts his mind to. It’s so nice to see him reaping the rewards he so deserves.”
