A memorial bench has been donated to Dartmouth Health and Wellbeing Centre by Ann and Malcolm Matthews and was in commemoration of the Smith family, late of Bayards Cove. There were 13 brothers and sisters bought up at Sabine House on Bayards Cove, many were involved in local business's and organisation's.

Harry and George started the original Dartmouth pleasure boats, John Paddon who was Ethel Smith's son worked on the river from a young man until he retired.

Two sisters ran a fish and chip shop in Higher Street. Fred Didsbury's whose mother was Francis was involved in starting Dartmouth Caring in The Clinic in Mayors Avenue in the early 90's,

Billo Smith was a keen Dartmouth Bowls Club member and has a bench with his name on, has a Billo Smith cup in his honour and later became a life member.

He also started the original local swimming club at The Castle and was a member of The British Polo Team and he often played polo in the boat float.

Viola became mayoress when Miss Scawn was mayor, Muriel's son Tony Carlson was Mayor of Monkey Town Regatta and raised money for local charities over many years.

The group would like to thank Barry Morris for taking the pictures, their suppliers Gardentime and Nick Hindmarsh from Dartmouth Caring for his help in arranging the bench to be sited also to Dartmouth Medical Practice and Dartmouth Clinic for their professionalism over many decades.
