A group of amateur singers from across the South Hams will provide backing vocals for a hit singer-songwriter when she performs in Dartmouth later this month.
Charlie Dore, best known for the 70s hit Pilot of the Airwaves, is coming to the Flavel Arts Centre with multi-instrumentalist, Julian Littman of Steeleye Span on Friday, April, 20.
She will be performing songs from her new album, Dark Matter, along with classics from her back catalogue, including Pilot of the Airwaves. The track reached number 13 in the US hit charts and gained notoriety as the final track played by unlicensed offshore radio station, Radio Caroline.
It starts with a distinctive acapella harmony, which will be provided by the South Hams pop-up choir, led by amateur singer-songwriter, Katie Whitehouse. The choir, which has been formed solely to provide support for the Dartmouth gig, is made up of amateur singers who are rehearsing in venues across Totnes for their moment in the spotlight. They will sing backing vocals on a selection of Charlie Dore’s songs as well as one for support act, Peter James Millson.
Charlie’s show is described as “eclectic contemporary folk” and features a wide range of instruments including guitars, mandolin, harmonium, ukulele, piano and autoharp. The choir will support her for one night only. For more information contact the Flavel box office on 01803 839530
