A team of parents and friends from Merry-Go-Round Preschool in Stokenham has raised £1,900 for the preschool through a charity run last month.

Organised by Ali Pieterse, vice chair of Merry Go Round and Thea Butler, owner of the Tower Inn in Slapton, the group ran 10km along the South Hams coast on Sunday, May 7.

The determined team donned their running shoes, some for the first time, to take on the challenge, beginning at Start Point car park. They then ran along the coast, through Hallsands, Beesands and on to Torcross. They then ran along the “never-ending” Slapton Line and part of the way around the ley, ending up at the Tower Inn in Slapton to be rewarded with medals and a scrumptious roast.

Merry-Go-Round manager Emma Parker said: “Thea’s father, Nick, was an inspiration to us all, racing ahead and finishing first! Some first time runners spoke of how they were supported by running buddies to complete the challenge. And many spoke of how they enjoyed the run so much they have been inspired to continue running after the event.

“On behalf of Merry-Go-Round Preschool staff and children, I would like to thank all sponsors, runners and the Tower Inn, for supporting our preschool. The money raised will continue to develop our setting – starting with some new signs to promote where we are.”

It’s not too late to sponsor those who took part in the 10km charity run. To donate money, visit www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/coast-to-roast.

On Wednesday, July 5, the preschools is running a ‘really easy pub quiz’ in aid of Merry-Go-Round, at the Bear and Blacksmith in Chillington. And on Monday, July 17, the annual sports day will be held along with preschool leavers’ ceremony.

Merry-Go-Round Preschool is an independent charity-run preschool supported by a dedicated committee which fundraises to support the longevity of the preschool. Their aim is to ensure its future in this difficult financial and political climate.
