An animal loving charity says it can’t thank its supporters enough after an emergency appeal has raised £25,000.

Animals in Distress launched the appeal after the country went into lockdown last month, and it was forced to shut its shops, cancel events and cease its rehoming efforts.

The Ipplepen-based charity cares for and rehomes more than 600 homeless and unwanted dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs every year and feared the loss of vital funds would threaten the welfare of the animals that desperately need its help.

Fundraising manager Nicola Moorhouse, said: “We have been truly overwhelmed by your incredible love and generosity for the animals in our care – especially as we know that it’s a very difficult and uncertain time for everyone.

“We absolutely can’t thank you enough.

“No one knows for how long this situation will last and there is no Government help being offered to animal charities so this money will make such a difference to the animals in our care over the coming weeks.

“It will certainly take us a long time to get back on our feet again once the situation has settled down.

“It has been a really concerning time for everyone at Animals in Distress but I can assure you that, as always, our dedicated team are continuing to care for the animals at our rescue centre, and making sure they receive everything they need.

“On behalf of all the animals in our care, and all the thousands of animals who will need our help in the future, we will never be able to say thank you enough for your truly generous support.”
