Jeremy Holloway, of Higher Street, Kingswear, writes:
The so-called 'gagging law' introduces new rules that would prevent non-politicians from speaking up on the big issues of the day.
It also restricts the amount of money organisations, including charities, can spend on important election issues leading up to an election. Huge corporations however are not affected.
Groups that normally wouldn't agree have been uniting to speak out against this law, including charities such as Oxfam, the British Legion and the RSPB. Politics is too important to leave to political parties, and in a healthy democracy everyone should be able to express their views.
Last week in Parliament changes were made to the Act that were agreed by the House of Lords. Although not perfect they were an improvement.
Our MP should be backing the changes that have been made to this potential gagging law, sadly Sarah Wollaston did not.
MPs should be taking note of their constituents' views. This is a hated law all over the country. Please listen to the public and agree to the recent changes as agreed by the Lords.
