A new initiative has been launched in Dartmouth aimed at bringing together local groups to ensure the town remains “a beautiful and welcoming place” ahead of the spring season.
Tidy Dartmouth involves the collaboration of groups such as the River Dart Rotary and The Weed Monkeys, as well as the town’s council, the chamber of commerce and South Hams District Council (SHDC).
A team of volunteers from SHDC got the ball rolling at the weekend by clearing out weeds on the South Embankment.
The initiative will continue next weekend (January 25-26), and residents and businesses are being encouraged to have another go.
Jonathan Gilland from Dartmouth Green Partnerships said: “Our charity has worked for over 50 years to keep Dartmouth looking beautiful through our planting of flowers and by protecting our local green spaces.
“We are thrilled at this new invigoration of energy from the Dartmouth community and are excited to be part of Tidy Dartmouth, working alongside other committed organisation.”
Laura Campbell from the Dartmouth tourism and business hub added: “Every day in Dartmouth, we have the chance to make a lasting first impression on our visitors.
“Our true value lies in our rich history, heritage and the beauty of our town. A neglected appearance can send the wrong message that we don’t care, but we all know how much we do care. That’s why the new Tidy Dartmouth initiative is so important. It’s a perfect example of what Dartmouth does best - pulling together as a community and taking pride in our town.”
Danni Pinnington from The Chamber of Commerce said: “We are delighted at the prospect of our beautiful town looking its best for the forthcoming season with the help of the Tidy Dartmouth initiative”
