I was in Dartmouth recently, meeting up with an old friend who moved to the South Hams a few years ago, and couldn't help but notice the high price of drinks in your pubs.
I don't know whether this is due to 'cashing in' on the tourist trade or other factors, such as high wages, are at work.
In my home village there are three pubs and a pint of average beer and a large glass of orange juice comes to around £3.50-£4. In the South Hams, we paid from £5 to £5.50.
As you might understand, over a week of several visits to pubs, this can add up to quite a considerable difference.
The service in the South Hams was no better or worse, and the pubs were no better or worse in terms of decoration, seating etc.
So why are the prices so much higher in the South Hams? Perhaps one of your pub landlords would care to explain.
