Dartmouth Bowling Club
The club’s men made an impressive start to the 2016 season in the Mid Devon League against Torquay Victoria ‘A’, winning by 93 shots to 52.
Rink one of A Hawkins, J Bowden, B Brehout and skip D Sherlock started quickly and were never seriously troubled.
Leading 11-5 after end eight, they continued their dominance, stretching the lead to 20-5 after end 16 and eventually winning 22-11.
Rink two consisting of J Hawkins, T Hawken, M Greenland and skip W Varnam faced the strongest Victoria group and were never in the lead. Still in touch at the tea interval, just trailing by three shots, the position worsened to being 10 shots adrift by end 16.
Despite a spirited late challenge, they eventually went down 21-16.
Rink three with R Lambden, T Deighton, P Caddy and skip P Hannaford played a tight match for the first five ends before putting their foot firmly down thereafter to lead by nine shots at the tea interval. This lead was maintained and they ran out winners by 21-12.
Rink four comprising T Taylor, B Williams, S Ivey and skip M Hawkins achieved the most impressive win of the day. Leading by five shots at the tea break, they then dominated and finally ran out winners by 26 shots 34-8. Excellent!
