This year's Cornwood 10k Challenge and Fun Run, which was sponsored by Sibelco, took place last Saturday and saw 138 runners take on the 10k and 84 opt for the 4k fun run. The race started at 6.30pm, much to the delight of the competitors, as it allowed some of the day's heat to dissipate and temperatures to drop to a more appropriate level. The route took the runners around Cornwood and Lutton, mostly on roads, but with some of it on tracks and fields. Local club Erme Valley Harriers were well-represented, with Allister Bristow and Owen Perkin finishing second and third respectively, clocking times of 37:04 and 38:28, not far behind Peter Monaghan, the Torbay AC runner who won the event. For the ladies, Emma Lake was the highest-finishing female, taking third behind the South Devon AC pair of Naomi Flanagan and Michelle Moore in a time of 44:12. The Harriers' Andrew Trigg also claimed third place in the veteran men's category with a time of 41:42.
