In the Bowls Devon finals of the mixed pairs at Kings Torquay, Shirley Bartrop and Derek Parkin (Plymstock) took on Lynda and Steve Dommett (Honiton) for a place in the final, but despite holding their opponents to just a one-shot difference after eleven ends (9-10), they were to bow out 23-13.
There had been little to choose between the two pairs in the first half of this semi-final, but the twelfth end proved decisive with Honiton scoring a seven to go 17-9 ahead. Plymstock reduced the deficit but failed to bridge the gap and a treble and a single saw the Honiton pair go through.
Honiton never really challenged rivals Gill Callaghan and Peter Chidgey (Tiverton WE) in the final and went down 23-7 after nineteen ends.
In the Bowls Devon ladies' finals at Bideford, home of county president Carol Rockey, Plymstock's Barbara Allen and Sara Quayle were beaten in the final of the pairs by Devon John's Trophy duo Jean Chudley and Jenny Dawson (Topsham) 29-16.
Plympton's Margaret Skinner won though to the final of the unbadged singles but was beaten by Christine Rainford (Crediton) 21-15.
Stoke Fleming's final match of the season, against Abbrook Park (Kingsteignton) in the men's Mid-Devon Bowling League was washed out last weekend but, weather permitting, the two sides will face off on Saturday. It is believed that Dartmouth have put their all-weather green at Stoke Fleming's disposal should the home club's green be deemed unplayable.
Stoke Fleming are currently bottom-but-one in Division One after fifteen matches and five wins, while opponents Abbrook Park are in fourth place in the table with eight wins.
