DARTMOUTH’s senior golfers were involved in a relatively new fun competition on Monday, February 10, a two-man team scramble based on the Texas & Louisiana equivalents.

Teams of two players with 35% (higher) & 15% (lower) red course handicaps assembled to achieve the lowest net score following a gross medal round. Both players drove off from the tee - picked the preferred drive and so on until the ball was in the hole. 16 teams were in the mix.

A bitingly cold morning with a raw easterly wind greeted the intrepid early birds and it remained that way for the whole round- not the ideal day for a game of golf.

All teams looked to have gelled well producing some excellent joint scoring with three under-par coming out on top. This was achieved by Messrs Barratt & Oldrieve & Harding & Mitchell with the former edging the latter on back nine countback. Very well done to both pairs and to all who took part for braving the wintery conditions. We hope that as we head towards the vernal equinox on 20 March the weather will be kinder and a tad warmer than it was today!

Competition results:

1st. Rob Barratt & John Oldrieve 69 nett (countback)

2nd Paul Harding & Mark Mitchell 69

3rd Andrew Dix & David Sparks 71

4th Paul Stubbs & Bernard Taylor 72

5th Malcolm Barrett & Paul Marels 72

6th Stephen Haupt & Gordon Holmes 73

Birdie twos were scored by Mario Aresti & Michael Whitelaw on the first (eagle), Roy Baldwin & Brian Mushens and Malcolm Barrett & Paul Marels on the fifth. Eagle-eyed Nigel Osborne counted them all back- many thanks to him as usual.
