ANDREW Dix went flying out of the blocks in the latest senior’s Stableford competition at Dartmouth Golf Club.

35 players were in the mix for this non-qualifying event on Monday, February 17, playing off of the red tees on the Championship course. 95% of course handicaps were in play for this competition and it was another windy day, making scoring challenging, particularly with many flags at the more awkward rear of the greens.

Only nine starters exceeded 30 points with most struggling in the mid-twenties and so the strong form shown by Andrew Dix was enough to give him the win by a few points.

His strong start wasn’t just a flash in the pan as he maintained the momentum throughout, finishing with a very impressive 38 points which for him, equates to a six-over-par gross score. This was three points clear of the field and is his third individual win in the last four months. A stunning example of consistency- very well done Andrew.

A raft of players on the top table finished on thirty-five, points separated by the countback methodology. So very good rounds from them also.

In summary, winter golf is never the easiest in muddy conditions but after recent course closures, it was nice to be out and about again.

Overall competition result: 1st, Andrew Dix 38 points 2nd, Peter Hannaford 35 3rd, Paul Harding 35 4th, John Oldrieve 35 5th, George Reeve 35 6th, Nigel Osborne 34

Birdie twos were scored by Philip Green & Paul Stubbs on hole five and Andrew Dix at the 18th. Nigel Osborne was on hand to count them in! Many thanks to him. Next week, a mixed-tee event will be the order of the day.
