THE annual fun three clubs and a putter competition was given an airing on the Championship Course blue tees at Dartmouth Golf Club on Monday, March 10, writes Gordon Holmes.

Robert Wotton reigned supreme as the champion when this competition took place, a fine score of 39 points earning him the crown. He returned to the field once again and managed a creditable sixth position this time around.

This competition, which attracted 30 entrants, was a Stableford scoring non-qualifier with course handicap the overarching measure alongside the standard 95% equity allowance. It's difficult to know what clubs to take and what to leave out and conditions influence decisions.

Nothing phased Messrs Oldrieve & Jewell who both played to their handicaps, finishing in first and second places respectively on 36 points apiece. Both had many pars and birdies but the former edged the latter on countback with the fourteenth hole accounting for the difference.

The next two to come through both scored 34 points, Andy Dykes edging out Roy Baldwin on countback and then John Cousins took fifth place on 33 points, countback coming into play again to put him ahead of the aforementioned Robert Wotton.

Birdie twos were scored at the par threes by Michael Whitelaw, on hole seven and Colin Cooper at the 18th.

Many thanks to competition guru Nigel Osborne who downloaded the results on his way back from competitive DMVGA action at Thurlestone.

In summary, it was great to be back in competitive action after three successive Mondays of inclement weather. It was a fine day with no wind, rain and only club selection to reflect on.

Next week, the ever-popular 3-2-1 team competition makes a welcome return for the Dartmouth seniors.
