MONDAY August 19 saw the fourth round of the Seniors Cup at Dartmouth Golf Club.
Many are still well-placed in this event, which takes the best three scores from five rounds for this board title.
This round had the potential to separate the men from the boys and with a lead, Brian Mushens was in the field and looking to consolidate his position. He was, however, only able to maintain his status quo.
In all, 29 intrepid golfers and conditions were not ideal for most, but the consistent John Garner posted a fine round of 83 gross, nett 66.
This was one of the best, largely unblemished rounds of the day, with many pars and a birdie at the tricky tenth. He was followed into the house by Graham Burton who had a majestic round of 81 off of his handicap of 11.
Both featured as Division One winner & runner-up whilst the Division Two prize went to Paul Stubbs.
After four rounds, J Garner is leading the Seniors Cup standings on a score of 209, with B Mushens and G Burton hot on his heels with 214 and 215 respectively.
Meanwhile, the seniors played a friendly match against Torquay on Wednesday 14 August. Having won the home leg 5-1, the aim was to consolidate an overall winning position.
Dartmouth Seniors expected a stiff test for the return match. A strong Dartmouth team rose to the challenge and produced a memorable 4-2 win.
Mario Aresti & Malcolm Toone had a 5&4 victory and David Sparks & Alistair Forbes won 5&3. Some great golf was played on a course that was in fantastic condition. Mario had an eagle on the par five 8th hole and Alistair won the Dartmouth nearest the pin on the 18th. Well done to all the team for a great away victory.
Elsewhere, Gary Bonser (71 points), Mark Mitchell (55) and John Garner (55) are on the podium currently for Senior of the Year and in the Perring Cup semi-final, David Sparks & Andrew Dix beat Rob Barrett & John Oldrieve.
