Dartmouth Golf Club

Despite a frosty start to the day, it was clear and bright as the early starters took to the fairways at Dartmouth Golf Club on Monday morning in an individual stableford competition.

With some 39 starters in total, it was always going to be a closely contested affair and so indeed it turned out to be.

Taking full advantage of the best of the day, Tony Andrew made an excellent start, parring the first three holes, and with nothing more than bogey over the front nine holes he recorded some 20 points. And although the back nine holes were not quite so good, he still managed a respectable 36 points in total.

A decent score, but not one that he expected would be good enough for victory, so it was an anxious wait as the other players returned to the clubhouse.

As player after player announced their score, it was looking better each time and with the wait finally over he was duly confirmed the winner.

The fight for second place was a real nail-biter, as the next five places each recorded 33 points; so it was all down to countback to decide the minor places.

In the end it was seniors’ captain Mike Whitelaw who took second place from George Reeve, Tony Hall, Mario Aresti and Bill Atkinson.

There were four twos scored on the day and these went to Mario Aresti, Kevin Hoare and Bernard Taylor on the third hole and Trevor Pretty on the fifth.

Next week it is the turn of the Winton foursomes, where the guys will be hoping for more fine weather.
