England Hockey National League Conference West.
Ashmoor Men's 1st XI. 0
Guildford Men's 1st XI. 2
ASHMOOR men’s 1st team hosted unbeaten league leaders Guildford and the previously impenetrable fortress was undone by a quality side who took their chances from set pieces.
After a goalless first quarter, the visitors took the lead from a cheap penalty corner.
Rich Fisher was then penalised and disputes over the balance of refereeing decisions landed a second Ashmoor player in the bin with him.
Everything seemed to be going against the home side with further bafflement at the calls and when Guildford threw an aerial ball forward, the striker backed into Cullen Turner to receive it. However, the Ashmoor defender was the one penalised and Guildford scored a second goal from the harshly awarded penalty corner.
There was no let-up in terms of Ashmoor’s determination but they just couldn't get themselves on the scoresheet and ultimately lost their 100% home record. Lewis Hammett was named the Pallex player of the match for his assured performance at the heart of defence.
This Sunday, Ashmoor face an equally tough task against second-placed Clifton Robinsons and will be endeavouring to get back to winning ways at the Totnes fortress!
Riviera Division 2
Teign Men's 1st XI. 4
Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI. 9
It was another great attacking performance by the Ashmoor 2nd team who managed to rack up nine goals against a decent Teign side.
Charles Walker drag flicked a lovely penalty corner in the opening six minutes, and got himself three more goals during the game. The ever-Green Dan weighed in with a hat trick, and Dan Cowdry and Reuben Stanley grabbed two other goals for Ashmoor.
Henry Walker had another excellent game with two assists, but it was brother Charles who earned the Player of the Match award.
Next up, the league leaders travel to play Ocean City in Plymouth.
Petroc Division 2
Ashmoor Womens 1st XI. 2.
Dart Development XI. 2.
Ashmoor ladies fielded a young development side of their own in their match against Dart, with no fewer than eight teenagers in their XI.
Elsa Powell scored a brace in this one after strong interplay with the likes of Sophie Blee, Emmie Buckman and senior debutant Belle Braithwaite.
Ashmoor chose to play with 11 outfield and this cost them when Dart drew level from two relatively tame goal-bound efforts.
Unsurprisingly, Powell earned the player of the match plaudits and next up for the team is a home game against Okehampton.
Riviera Division 1.
Ashmoor Men's 3rd XI. 2
Ocean City Men's 3rd XI. 5
After four games without defeat, Ashmoor went into the game against Ocean City confident of earning another good result but were ultimately undone by just two 4-minute periods in each half.
Quickfire goals gave OC a 3-0 lead, the third of which fired Ashmoor into action themselves and as half-time approached, Angus Murray pulled one back with a great reverse stick effort.
Player of the match Will Baker was quick to add to this with the goal of the game, reducing the deficit to just the one at the break.
An even second half saw Martin come closest to a deserved equaliser but it wasn’t to be and instead, Ocean City scored twice in the closing minutes to put the game to bed.
This Saturday, the men's 3rd XI host Exeter University, whilst the 4th XI travel to play Sidmouth & Ottery 4ths.
