Tribute Devon Two
Plympton Victoria 0,
Dartmouth 43
Another emphatic victory saw Dartmouth regain top spot in the league with a comfortable seven-try win over their hosts. Dartmouth started strongly and ran in five unanswered tries in the first half, which secured the bonus point and left them in control for the rest of the game.
Now on 24 points, they lie one point clear of second-placed OPMs with the rest of the peloton trailing these two frontrunners by a further seven points.
The match was played on a muggy, damp afternoon and considering the conditions, the Darts contrived to play some good rugby. Alex Parrott opened the scoring, with Nick Shillabeer being the provider for a Richard Lobb second score, closely followed by a quickfire brace from Karl Caunter.
The half was rounded off with a score from Dave Champion, who with fellow kicker Jack Clark managed to convert four of the five tries for a half-time score of 33-0 to the visitors.
Dartmouth made some changes during the second half and though the fresh legs were welcome, a spell of heavier rain, failing light and a more determined defensive effort from the home side meant that the Darts were unable to add to their first-half score until late in the game.
Josh Bruckner and then Jack Gordon touched down, with both conversions being unsuccessful. On the whole, though, Dartmouth had a good game, with some great rugby played in the first half and keeping a resurgent Plym Vic under wraps in the second to ensure that no points were conceded.
The Darts man-of-the-match award went to Jason Gibbs. With the Tsang’s Chinese Restaurant man of the month for November being awarded to Jack Clark; the prize is a meal for two at Tsang’s Restaurant and is won by the player with the best training, match attendance record and playing contribution during the said month. Dartmouth are away to Devonport High School Old Boys tomorrow in round six of the Devon Two league, with kick off at 2.30pm at Stonehouse, this being their final game before the Christmas break.
