SDFL division five
Stoke Fleming and Strete 2,
Broadhempston United reserves 1
After the Christmas break Stoke returned to the village green to host broadhempston.
Missing Koree and Lance Worthington, Stoke were forced into chances to the team and formation, in bad conditions and on a boggy pitch both teams failed to play any passing football, with the long ball utilised.
Stoke, playing into the wind, found it very hard to clear their lines and after a ball was cleared it came straight back and, with the wind playing its part, the ball broke free for the Broads striker to fire home.
Stoke got stuck in and managed to go in at half time only 1-0 down.
Half time came and went and with the wind in their favour Stoke now started to show that they were the better team.
With Lee Kendall passing the ball round with ease, it was only a matter of time before Stoke got level.
The inevitable goal came with 25 minutes to go; a lofted free kick wasn't cleared, the ball span across the six-yard box and Lee Robinson slid in to finish it off.
Stoke, now in control, went for the win and when another free kick was lofted in and Jamie Elliot's header went just past the post, it seemed the game was to end as a draw.
But, with almost the last kick of the game Stoke got the winner. Eddie Church's sliced shot fell to wing back Danny Sharam, who placed his shot perfectly between 'keeper and the post.
Finally some late luck for Stoke, with the win moving them off the bottom of the league. The man-of-the-match award went to Jamie Elliot. Next up Stoke host Ashburton at home in a 2.30pm kick-off.
